Aerial roots on phal

Hello. I just purchased some type of phal and it has a few aerial roots that really seem to be dead. Is it ok to cut them back and if so how far back?

If they are really dead, it will not hurt. Cut them completely off. To make sure they are dead, run water over them for a few minutes. If they do not change color and absorb the water, then they are probably completely dead. If you are unsure, post a photo and let us take a look.
