    Thumbs up Water Culture Works

I purchased these two plants at the same time.As you can see,one of the plants has grown well in the bark mix medium. The other plant just wouldn't do anything. After reading Becky15349 & Miki articles about water culture.I gave it a try.As you can see,the water culture has produced new roots. The full name of this plant is Yam.Queen Adelia "Kiilani"(Blc.Orange Nuggett x Yam.Sammie Evans). I must thank everyone on this forum for keeping all my chids Happy !! Take Care,Rich

    Rich, that's fantastic!
Do you put fertilizer in the water? What ratio? How often?
Do you discard the water and replace it once in a while or keep adding more?
Can you give a little detail on how you've done it? Thanks

this is fascinating to me. i am seeing correctly, is the plant being held up by the plastic knife? are the bottom half of the bulbs submerged? i have one in water two as a result of reading the same posts, but nothing is happening. it was a very damaged specimen and i figured what the heck but i have just the very bottom of the bulb touching the water. it's amazing. thanks for posting this.

To answer some of your questions.Yes this plant is being held up by a clear plastic knife & a twist tie.Normally the p-bulb is about half way in the water.I did spin the plant around to show more roots that is why it looks like its submerged deeper than it normally would be.I do add a very small amount of Orchid plus fert.(20-14-13) into the water.I do change the water about every 1 1/2 weeks. When the water level drops,I do add straight water between water changes. In Becky's article, she said she removed all of the existing roots before placing the plant into the water.I wasn't so brave.I did leave two small good roots, which have adapted into this new environment. This is all new to me.I'm sure that Becky15349 or Miki would have a lot more information than i do.Thanks For The Questions,Rich

Nice job!!! I still have my catt in water culture, and it looked pretty much like yours when it was at that stage! Its still happily growing along Water culture is definitely fun and a unusual way of growing these crazy plants!

I did start to see new growth just after the first week. The two existing roots started to swell at the end of the root and turn very green. The new roots started after the plant had been in the water for about 2 weeks. This is really different, compared to what we are told about our chids.Good Luck to everyone who gives this a shot. Rich
