[QUOTE=prem]here's a plant that was brought into our local orchid society...it was easily 3 feet in diameter, and my understanding is that it is still undersized for a CCM:

    Darn Prem,
You really know how to hurt a gal's feelings ! Mine is only a little over 2ft. I wouldn't haul it to a judging center anyways !

    Traci,
The only cool mine got was outside, before frosty weather arrived, and it had to come back inside.

That one hangs in someones greenhouse....hence the nice rounded perfect shape....mine was crammed up next to a window on a bench...mine will hang from now on, if I can find a hanger strong enough !

NOTE: that BC Maikai photo I posted was not my plant...it belonged to a fellow member of our local orchid society. I'm also not trying to "diss" Gilda's plant in any way...that is a fine specimen...it's just not up to the size needed to be considered for a CCM award.

My own BC Maikai is a small division that has a long ways to go before it gets big...one spike with two flowers, so feel proud of yours, Gilda...you deserve it.

Prem, kudos for that last post. Very good of you to make that clear.

CCM awards can be touchy to get regardless: even if the plant is sized appropriately, there's a line past which a big plant can become regarded as nothing more than a big weed. Given a choice between a smaller plant which presents itself and its flowers particularly well and a monster, the smaller plant will very often take the prize.

In any case, yes! Your pride is well-deserved, Gilda. That's *very* nice growing.

Very nice specimen, just beautiful Gilda!
I have a hybrid w/ this as a parent (Iwanagara Haleahi) in spike now. I'm looking forward to it blooming (it was my first orchid just a year ago!) You know, I don't think I ever checked for a fragrance back then...didn't know I should!
