    Default Orchid purchasing poll!

I've never started a poll before so here we go!

Where do you buy most of your orchids?

I would say I buy the largest portion at orchid shows and supplement with online purchases. I can buy 10-12 at a single show and if there is a specific one I need that wasn't available I will search around online and buy it that way. I prefer to see the orchid before I buy it if possible.

What about you? You can select multiple answers if needed in the poll.

    Shann~

i should have picked Online Vendors considering I've just put in two orders online, but one order I will pick up on Friday, and the other will be delivered to a show in a couple of weeks time. Having said that, I got a box with a Cymbid yesterday as well and a couple of weeks ago, I did buy a number of orchids at an orchid fair.

so guess I have covered all those options apart from the 'box store' purchase which I don't do as I like my 'chids named and with a better start that what those places offer them.

I also get lots of orchids from my orchid society meetings and auctions. Of course trades also account for many of my new orchids each year.

I selected from orchid shows because it was probably the largest source for me, but "other" is up there, too, because (like Bruce), I get a lot of plants at my local orchid society meetings. I confess I've done just about all of the above (yes, even big box stores--but only if they're named!) except phone orders.

    Cheers,
    Rob

I pretty much get 90% of mine online and then the 5% each at the flower district and orchid society meeting.

I buy mine from the big box store. Which is probably why they all die...

I made my first online purchase from here last week. Let's see if that makes a difference.

LOL!! They will NOT all die, this is just your learning curve!! Maybe you are overwatering, that seems to be everyone's problem initially...

I buy about 99% of my plants online. I have a very good, well-known vendor in my area, but its about an hour's drive, and I hate traffic, so I just order from them online. If you work, ordering them to your door is the easiest way AND if you know how to find the major vendor's stuff on "the largest auction site known to man", that's even better

Hi, I am new here (just registered) and also newbie with the orchid obsession. This is my first post! I’ve been reading the forum three or four days now (full time as I no longer have a job, and also I put a lot of overtime…) All my 4 orchids I bought from the big box store less than a month ago and I already have done mistakes that I need to fix after reading and researching. Anyway… Two weeks after my new friends got home I was thinking of having babies. I pollinated one flower on each orchid x self (well I wasn’t sure what I was doing). Couple of days ago I ordered online seven different seeds (that I am still reading what to do with when they come, but the picture gets clear here (the best forum btw). Oo also my husband’s client (very nice lady) gave me 3 dend babies (I wish they bloom tomorrow morning…LOL) and lastly I am planning to go to the biggest greenhouse in South Florida I was able to find online and buy some flasks there. So that pretty much covers my long (almost a lifetime) soon will be month experience. I mean I am checking them every 10 min., taking pictures and reading…reading… But I still have a hard time remembering the names. (LOL)

Margo, it must be something in the water here in La La Land. I can't remember most of the names either. LOL

Do you belong to any of the local societies?

Not yet... I am "new obsessed"... Got my first one from my husband less than a month ago for my birthday. So far I only went to ASO and as walking there I wanted to have a time-freeze machine...
