My name is Melvin and I'm a beginner when it comes to orchid cellecting. My all time favorites are siam jade and green cimbidiums. I have about 3 pots of siam jade but i don't know how to take care of it. Here are some of my questions and i hope someone will answer them:
1. When is the peek season for siam jade?
2. how to re-pot?
3. when re-potting, should I use bark or moss?
4. I know siam jade is an indoor orchid BUT where in my house is the best place to put them?
5. Indirect or direct sunlight?
6. how often do I water them?
7. I live in Stockton, CA where it is hot during summer. what should I do during summer?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!

Hi Melvin,
Welcome to OrchidTalk.
1. See this thread and dates for bloom times:cattleychea siam jade
2. Repot as in this article: Repotting your Orchid
3. A bark mix as described in the above article.
4. In high light, but not direct sunlight.
5. Indirect, filtered sunlight, but very bright.
6. Let this orchid dry out between waterings. Also, you want the media to drain quickly to allow the roots to dry as soon as possible after watering and feeding.
7. Enjoy growing your orchid and getting it ready to bloom for you in February or March. Also, visit OrchidTalk often and let us know how your orchid is growing and changing.
Welcome!
Cheers,
BD
Mine is still in bloom
I don't see why you could not grow it outdoors for a big part of the year, if you would like.
Thank you all for the input. I will follow all the advice and update you guys on how my orchids are doing.
