Sadie, thanks for the pictures! That is very helpful. How long you have it for? Looks like a giant compare to mine...LOL
looks like it is doing well for you Sadie!
I'm glad it was helpful--like I said, didn't want to overkill the answer there.
It has been at least two years, maybe three. Thinking back, I think I got the one I tried in the bottle later. This one had been struggling and the vendor was here for a local show so I got a back up--then proceeded to experiment on my backup and killed it. (There's a lesson in there somewhere. . . . )
Anyway, this one is one of those that I bought as a bitty guy and has just been hanging around waiting to get to be blooming size. Someday, someday I'll have dramatic ghost flowers.
Good luck with yours. I'd love to hear what you figure out to make yours happy.
Two-three years?! Mine is so little... It will take another century to bloom if it doesn't turn to a real ghost...
Sadie,
Thanks for the photographs of your setup with the Ghost. Yes, a photograph is a thousand words indeed.
From your setup and what you are saying that it still gets all the air circulation from the fan and the humidifier .... this somehow supports my theory that the high humidity (from the humidifier) is the main thing in keeping the ghost alive. The air circulation from the fan (not strong/just mild) on the other hand perhaps prevents the growth of bad organisms that cause rotting and I guess you have a warm, humid greenhouse because of all the vandas and phalaenopsis I see in the photo (on the left). I can see the ghost hanging there on the side of the shelf. Your environment is similar to what I have set up here in my grow area. I'm learning a lot from photos of your setup.
