hi folks,
here is my latest joy and it smells soooo good!
That is a beauty!
I seem to have difficulty finding this species in the flea market here during sundays.
Dendrobium aphyllum aka D. pierardii was thought to be from other countries, but it seems like it can be found in the wild here also. Jim Cootes' book does not have a photo entry for this plant.
I am amazed at your photo. Do you have a new camera?
hi nelson,
thanks for the info.
no, still the same camera and most of the time it takes good shots, unlike at your farm when it wouldnt focus correctly, it has its own will!lol
i only adjusted the brightness and color on this closeup shot, coz i used a mild flash and the petals reflected, unlike the first shot.
Beautiful and fragrant?! Sounds like "a must have".
I have one of these orchids and luv it! Your's is very pretty. Mine didn't do very many blooms this year but did have a bunch of new growth.
Shann~
Hi ron
very nice aphyllum ,I wish mine do bloom, too .
But in this time nothing to see
Oh I didn't know that this is also known as D. pierardii. In that case, I have this already but why does the flower look different? Different coloration specially the lip is yellowish and the petals/sepals apre lighter in color and veinous? Is this a different form of pierardii? The one I have is the common pierardii like the one shown below (from the net):
hi jojo,
it is one and the same, but of course there can be always slight differences in colours or veins.
the pix you posted here from the net makes it look different, coz the background is blackend, which brings out the colours of the bloom.
see also the difference in my 2 shots, first without a flash and the veins come out,
on the second shot the veins almost disappeared but focused on the lip, which turns out more yellowish, which is infact light green/ yellow.
