    Default Fogger, Mister ???

    Hi everyone,
I have another question today about items I will need for my new greenhouse. It is soooo hot in there! I'm gonna try to get everything in it that I will need for now (the basics) then I'll know more about the temp., and if I'm gonna have to figure out other things I can add to bring it down during the summer months (I haven't gotten as far as the winter yet in my mind). I ordered Aluminet shade cloth yesterday...I'm eager to see how much that is going to lower the temp.
Anyway, my question is about a fogger/mister system. I've been reading about the Aquafog 700, and it sounds very good...but I see that it costs quite a bit of money. Is there something else that you would suggest as a "starter" misting/fogger system, then maybe move up to a more costly one later...or do you think I should just go ahead and invest in a good system to start off with? I'm not familiar with others....suggestions, please?
    I would appreciate your advice,
    Vicki

Considering your humidity is probably extremely high during the summer (at least it was in Mobile), I don't know that a fogger/mister or even a swamp cooler will do you much good -- you might be best off with greater air circulation. I shall defer to those more knowledgable.

roof vent above your aluminet shade cloth and exhaust fans on one wall with openings on the opposite wall should do the trick. during the cool months, damping down the floor should raise the humidity enough that you won't need a fogger.

    Hi Vicki,

Pavel is right. The misters, foggers and other evaporative coolers are only optimal when the humidity is low. They can still work, but they really fall on the bad end of the diminishing returns scale.
If the air is already saturated with moisture, there will be very little evaporation going on. You will most likely end up with warm water dripping all over your plants.

The good news is that in higher humidity conditions, the plants can tolerate higher temperatures. Read up on "Vapor Pressure Deficit" to get more info on how humidity plays into temperature tolerances of plants.

    Here's a link to a primer. VPD

No need to worry about the fancy formulas. The key thing is that if your growing area actually has high humidity, heat would not be as big a problem for your plants as you think.

Thank you, everyone! Hmmm...sounds like one less thing I'm gonna have to buy. I can live with that with no problem...and so can my bank account! :>)
    Thanks again!
