Watering a mounted orchid consists of a thorough root misting?

I'm having thoughts of mounting one to hang over my shower(that I use daily), with smaller windows facing south & west...I live in the greatlakes area so it's not like I get hot sun all day every day...what kind might survive and would I still mist it often? Thanks, Rick

Make sure to properly rinse the wood if you get it from the beach. Depending on how much salt it has absorbed, you may need to clean/soak the wood several times over.

Thanks for the tip, John. I actually mounted a large cattleya on a piece of fern bark. Packed coconut fibre around it...The orchid is healthy with new roots just starting...I'm pretty sure it will be O.K. It's a sunny day in Texas, so now, I'm out of here...going to play in my greenhouse! Betty

    Rick,

I would try a Bulbophyllum. They like warmth and humidity and don't require high light.

    Great News!

The Swedish orchid magazine, Orkideer, will be translating my article and will be including it in their magazine for the April 2010 publication.
So if you are from that part of the world, please check it out. I have seen the pre-print version and the entire magazine is amazing - I only wish I had someone to translate the whole thing to English for me

    Very Excited,
    John
