The waiting has been so looooonnnnnggggg! I stared at the spikes everyday (which probably didn't do any good except make them grow even "slower"). Well, I did have patience! Today the biggest bud bloomed! It's still half-open...but I'll take pics later when more buds bloom. I'm just so excited and I need to share!

Well, coming late to this thread (seems to be my forte, n'est ce pas?) I was reasonably convinced by the first set of photos that you had a spike. I definitely agree now. BTW, on a similar note, a friend from my local orchid society looked at one of my seedling Phals and told me I had a spike on it. After straining my eyes I *finally* found the bulge she was talking about. My response was "I'll start to hope once it gets much bigger. That was about 2 weeks ago. I now think she was right! Anyway, just wanted to share because my experience seems to be just like yours here!Cheers,

    Rob

Looking at these pics I realize I have a new spike forming on my phal too.
I wasn't sure if it was a spike at first, but it looks just like the one in the pics above.
    Lily, how's it doing now?

I'm amazed by your pics Lily, I've never seen a flower spike develop at such an 'embryonic' stage, I have my eyes almost glued to my phals everymorning expectant to see something but in vain. I'm not sure when you first posted this thread but what's the final outcome?

I hope there's no rule against bumping up super old threads? Anyways, I was just bored today and looking through my old threads, and I came upon these phal spike photos. The phal in the photo bloomed that year and I think it bloomed again in 2006 and 2007(I think), but then, unfortunately, it suffered a mild setback due to root rot. Currently it is back on its feet and has a 5" spike growing. Frankly, now I'm much less obsessive with finding spikes. Recently, I didn't even notice my tolumnia has a 3" spike until its tip broke off because I moved the plant, and I gasped, "Wait, what did I just snap off...."

I just did the same thing to a huge paph spike with three buds. Kinda takes the breath away in a very not good way.

Hope you share photos of your phal when it blooms, Lily.

    Cheers,
    BD
