Talking Onc. ornithorhynchum making a come back

I posted a picture of my Onc. ornithorhynchum with a broken spike a couple of months ago it had got stuck in the green foliage probably due to lack of humidity. Well I decided to water a bit more often and see what happened, I was told that it could branch and flower for me but to be honest I thought this years chance of flowers was gone and I would have to wait for next year, well a few days ago I was watering and checking them over and I spotted this new spike. I was absolutely stunned that it is so determined to flower and also that I had missed the spike until it was quite long. I so hope that the flowers develop properly and I get to see it in flower, It will be a first bloom for this little one as I bought it as an unbloomed seedling back in february. I think its going to be a favourite if its this determined to bloom despite me!

It's sort of like watching a pot of water, waiting for it to boil. Turn your back for a second and it'll be going over the sides on you! lol I'm there with ya....and great job there!

Your exactly right connie it seems to have sprung up over night I had been keeping an eye on it for anything happening then sort of just left it to it and watered as often as it seemed to need it, poor thing hasnt been fed for a while I have just watered with rain water so I guess it is due a feed especially seeing as its hopefully going to bloom. Thanks so much Margo and Connie I hope I can bring it to flowering without any more mishaps! I will be very careful moving it around as it seems very fragile and I dont want to break it off.

Hi Carrie, isn't it too exciting? Love this unexpected happenings. They give an extra bright to it. I have 2 of these oncidiuns and they are lovely when bloomed. Here in Brasil they've bloomed, this year, on april/may and the flowers lasted very beautiful for 1 month. Good luck for yours.

I am not sure how much longer, there are no obvious buds yet so I would guess it will be a while yet, Its my first time blooming an Onc. so I dont know what to expect from it as far as time to bloom is concerned. All I know is I am excited and worried at the same time, until the flowers open I will fret something will go wrong and the spike fail. I will keep you updated with progress as much as I can but try not to bore you with too many photos LOL fingers crossed for me that everything goes smoothly
