Default January sunburn in New England

I bought my Odontioda Aissa McLaughlin in bloom last Easter and absolutely fell in love with the flowers. It's been very happy in my well-lit room and I wanted to be extra loving, so I set right on the sunny southern windowsill.

The sunburn wasn't immediate, but when it did appear it came on quickly (boy, just like us!) I now apply SPF 45 to the leaves daily.

Maybe a week after I relocated it to a recovery spot with indirect light, I read: "Odontioda love light, but avoid strong direct light." Guess I learned that the hard way...

    Julie

PS - Please don't anyone take the bit about the SPF seriously...

When I read the post title I thought I would get to read that you had gotten yourself a suntan in january.
Since my first thought wasn't about orchids, I must conclude that my winter depression is worse then I thought.

To bad about that sunburn on your chid!
This time of year I also have allot of orchids in my southern window.
But the sun here isn't strong enough to get sunburn, I even have some phals standing there.
When spring come I definitely need to take some orchids away from there or they'll get fried.

I think the only thing that saved a few of mine is that they are in an east window, otherwise there would be a couple phals that would be peeling by now. I did filter the light around them after the last snow. We are expecting more snow today, then clearing; I'm hoping the glare off the snow is helping the light situation, it seems to brighten my place at least.

Have to say, so far so good for this winter.

LOL Dana - a photo of me showing off a tan line (currently non-existent) would most definitely belong in the Compost Pile!

    I'll try and spare you.

Make yourself a margarita, stick a little umbrella in it and put on some Jimmy Buffet. That's my winter Rx!

Oooof. I'd enjoy my Rx so much, I'd be too healthy to get anything done.

Snow snow snow, ice, snow snow....
Dontcha just love New England? LOL!!

Pete, I've been thinking the same thing for days now, only good thing about the snow... we just need some sunny days (but cold, so as not to melt the reflectivity!) and we'd be all set!
