    I was bouncing around the web and happened upon this pic of a black orchid that I thought was interesting:

    Thought you guys might like it. It's amazing what's possible with orchid breeding.

    thanks for that Doug...

    interestingly, I was at a show on Saturday and this Paph was there.. unfortunately, it was in the middle of the display and I couldn't get to the tag.

    Well, there's also maxillaria schunkeana which can be pretty black

    Hmmm, I'm not familiar with the Maxillaria genus, is it commonly grown?

    It is. If you do a "search" here on the forum for maxillaria, you will see different varieties, RonNY and Drosera are two forum members who grow this genus.

    I had the opportunity of buying flasks of this last spring NZ $375 per flask of 25 and yes according to Fred Clark who breed it ,it does not matter under what light it is looked or photographed it still comes out black

    wow all of them are beautiful... I especially liked the black paph.... Its a must have for me.

    A great one! A must have (but when prices touch the ground, $ 375 for a flask lol)
