Round 3 repot phal orchid

Hi I am new to orchidtalk, I am a huge fan of orchids but seem to have difficulty telling whether they are dead or not. I just received my 3rd orchid and really want to keep it alive! At the moment I have my 2nd orchid, but I cut the steam off because it turned a light brown and was dried up. The leaves are still healthy, and it looks like another leaf is forming. This is where I come in to problems...what do I do next?

As far as my brand new orchid, I am not sure what I need to do. It has all this moss around it, do I remove that or leave as is? Any advice would be very helpful!!!

Hi Orchid24, Welcome to OT. Moss around it doesn't sound too good. Can you post a picture, so we can see what species it is?

I resize my photos this way:
open the photo with the default program > open with microsoft office picture manager ( of course if you have - office 2007 - instaled in your pc) > edit image> resize> save . Then you can upload it. I resize a maximun 700x700.

Is the orchid in the first picture potted in compost?

If it is it needs repotting as soon as possible as Phalaenopsis orchids grow on trees in the wild and need air around their roots, compost will suffocate the roots and stay too wet and rot them, I have most of my phals in bark and some in moss, the medium you need is dependant on your watering, if your a heavy watere bark is probably the best option, if you forget to water for longer periods moss might be better for you.

Exactly, this should be done as fast as possible. It is avery beautiful Phalaenopsis. It is also very healthy. If you transplant it immediately, it will reward you with beautiful foliage and blooms in a period of just 3 to 4 months.

so the orchid with just leaves is healthy? and the orchid in full bloom should not be re-potted?

Yes the plant with only the leaves is healthy, its leaves are looking a bit limp, but not a major concern. Repot it immediately into either a bark mix or in Semi hydroponic media (expanded clay pellets).

I would suggest that the one in moss be also repotted. But it can wait. But urgently repot the one in soil mix. Simply hold the base of the plant, turn the pot upside down, the soil will fall off, then gently tap the pot and free the roots from the mix and the pot. Wash away the soil with running tap water. Cut away dead mushy roots. Soak your plant in Hydrogen peroxide or a fungicide for about 30 minutes and then plant it in bark mix that has been washed and soaked in wate for atleast 4 to 8 hours.

I am so eager, if possible I would have done it myself heheh. Not done repotting for some while now.
