well i found a new area on my balcony to grow my cymbidium but there is an attomatic pourch light that comes on at night its pretty bright to. will that effect the growth cycle at all or should it matter since it is about 10 feet away from the orchid? anyway i was thinking i read up on something about night light triggering them or something is it true

K.c. what you read about light and dark cycle is true. Short days mimic winters and promote flowering, whereas long days stimulate more vegetative growth. In your case, the intensity of the light matters. Let us know the details of the light. If its a common T4 fluorescent 10 feet away, then it would hardly matter.

hey, yes that is what i have read up on before what u explained. well its bright but dont know what kind of light it is its a little tube light. probably a fluresent light. if so u say it should not matter. plus the thick light cover would block the rays if there was any right? well thanks for the advice.

That far away, it should be fine.

    Deanne,

You'd be better by starting your own thread, rather than tacking it on as a a reply to an unrelated, eight year old one!

Unless the vendor uses heat packs, knows home to pack for winter shipment, and uses 2-day delivery, I'd wait until spring. Especially with it being this close to Christmas when packages are often delayed or lost.
