Here's a chuckle for you. Seems the humans in this household aren't the only ones who like the new orchid plant arrangement. The Parrot finches HAD been in the 4foot by 8 foot flight cage to the left of the orchid shelves. Not anymore! Now they are flying and hopping around the orchids. I've put hem back in the flight twice now and watched them immediately squeeze out from under the flight cage door. I guess I will leave them out to enjoy the 'chids. Maybe I can hang some netting to keep them from flying all around the basement and getting in to things that would not be good for them.
That is simply an amazing setup you've got there!
A word on the birds - Just better keep your eye on them 'coz who knows they might pick on the plants specially on small buds forming.
This is my problem in my grow area. I live in a tropical climate with my plants grown under plastic in my patio area. I do not have problems with insect pests but gosh - the birds outside - local sparrows (not sure if that's the english word for them - locally we call them 'maya birds') - they keep flying into the semi-enclosed patio area and pick on the blooms and eat them up! Unfortunately I can't use pesticide because of the awful smell and I live in a townhouse unit which will just irritate my neighbors in the other townhouse units. Someone told me to use those hanging aluminum foil glitters which are used in fields to scare birds away but a friend of mine told me that after a while the birds will get used to them. Geesh! My current problem are the wild birds! (Although I am keeping a cage with a pair of African lovebirds as pets in my grow area also).
Very nice arrangement cindi. I love it. what orchids can do with us, amazing! rsrsrrs
now that's dedication.
cindi
nice setup, i especially liked the led growlights.

your grow area is enclosed right so how come the maya can get in there? are they going through the
spaces of your grills? anyways i grow outdoors and yes we have birds too visiting my garden... from
those maya to those migratory birds and to be honest they have been behaving themselves and not
harming any of the plants. i even leave some left over rice for them to feed on. But lately i dont
see any birds maybe its because of the weather as its been raining constantly... i hope you'll find
a solution to your bird issues.
Nice collection Cindi. It does take some re-thinking before bringing the babies inside.
Great utilization of space and obviously, much thought has gone into the actual placement of plants onto shelves. Good work, Cindi.
