Nicki...were the p-bulbs watery when squeezed? Foul odor?
Sounds like some form of rot. These rots are often caused by bacteria or fungi.

I have a couple Encyclia's with problems. Over the weekend I noticed that a couple leaves from both plants fell off. Those leaves were completely black from the bottom part that attaches to the pbulb to about halfway up the leaf. A couple pbulbs turned soft and brownish. I also found some black spots on the leaves where they were previously cut, broken or had slight damage from bugs or something. Those areas have been perfectly fine for months, no problems. Now all of a sudden this black is showing up.
I'm sorry I do not have photos. I threw away the leaves that fell off. I cut off the areas with the growing black spots & rotten pbulbs. There are still a couple pbulbs that are questionable. I sprayed both plants with a diluted physan mix.
I don't know over how long of a period this happened. The only thing different that has occured was for a couple days a fan had forgotten to be turned on.
Does anyone have any ideas what is going on? All my other plants are fine (knock on wood).

I do remember at least one of the pbulbs was watery. I didn't notice any odor when I was handling them but I also didn't intentional smell them to check for that.
