Default Bulbophyllum dearei and Dendrobium dearei blooming now

Colonel Deare must be so proud.
Bulbophyllum dearei is found in the islands of Mindanao, Palawan, Borneo, and also in peninsular Malaysia. Colonel Deare was the first to flower this plant in England.
Dendrobium dearei is found in most major Philippine islands and was named after Colonel Deare who collected the first plants. Well maybe, the first to bring them to Europe.

    Default Mea culpa.

Jim Cootes just sent word that this is Dendrobium schuetzei, and not Dendrobium dearei.
    Mea culpa. Thank you, Jim.

    ah, good to know!
blooms are very identical, schuetzei is much smaller and likes it more moist, first ones were collected in north mindanao.

so is your schuetzei smaller then dearei?

are smaller than that for Dendrobium dearei. However this particular clump grows in a mix of plants in a coconut tree trunk, and this is the first time it has bloomed, and the size of the plant is midway between a typical dearei and the smaller schuetzeis.
