I've seemed to have knocked over just about every orchid that I grow but this one. The vase is heavy and the plant is not top heavy at all--seems to be a safe way to grow them.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone!

humidity or air flow, which is more important? The vandas in a pot anyway..how is this any different from having it hanging and spraying or dunking it every few days? I don't get this vase method. Guess you'd have to have really low humidity to want to try the vase method. Most Vandas need more light than sitting in your home can provide. and i like to let there roots breath.

Some UK growers have had luck with such a growing method too. Nice growing, Clint!

I find it very interesting to see different ways to grow these wonderful plants. I don't question why it works. I do see that the light requirements are meet with additional fluorscent lighting. The roots have a added humid environment. Your plant looks very healthy and happy. If I were a vanda fan, I would give it a try. When you water your plant, do you just tip it on its side to remove the excess water when you are done ? Take Care,Rich

Well I think this method will work as long as the roots are not sogging wet and submerged in water.

It looks so healthy. Would you explain exactly how you water it - start to finish?

Default Details Needed on Vanda Vase Culture

    Clint-

I know this is an old post but I came across it as I was researching the whole concept of vanda vase culture. I live in WV and oviously have the challenge of wi
    I have a few questions:
    1. When you water, do you completely submerge the root system in water and if so, how long do you leave it before draining?
    2. Do you leave any water at all in the bottom of the vase and if so, about how much? I assume the roots do not touch this water if any is left in for humidity?
    3. In warmer seasons, do you simply remove the vanda from the vase and hang it in a basket outdoors? If so, how much sun can it tolerate in the chnge of systems?
    4. Assuming you fertilize in the process of watring....how long do you leave the plant soaking in the feertilizer?
    5. Do you use any root stimulants at all?
    6. When cleaning the vase of algae, particles, etc., do you just clean with soap and water? Do you disinfect it in any way?
    7. Have you ever had any issue with fungal infection/root rot while using the vase culture of vandas?

I hope you will indulge a very curious researcher who is looking for details from someone who has obviously had success with this system.
    Thanks so much
    Nanariff
