Cream butter with sugar until smoothly blended.
Beat in eggs one at a time.
Stir in vanilla and flour until batter is well mixed. Butter and flour an 11 inch round shallow spring pan.. Spread batter evenly in pan
Arrange fruit over the surface with cut side down. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes or until cake feels firm when touched in the center.
Let cool at least 30 minutes on a wire rack.
Remove pan rim.
I allow cake to reach room temp and about 1/2 hour before serving I dust top with powdered sugar. The sugar will dissolve on plums ans leave a pattern on cake.
I like plums, but have never had plum cake. Thanks, Ron!
