Default Desire for fire: the devastation of a wildfire triggers orchids to bloom

Desire for fire: how is it that the devastation of a wildfire can also trigger the flowering of a beguilingly beautiful orchid?

Connie (Cjcorner) found this article and shared it with me and asked if I would post it to share with you, so, here it is: Desire for Fire

    Cheers,
    BD

Thanks for sharing this! When I first read the title, it brought to mind the "last ditch effort" of a plant blooming in hopes of preserving its kind. Survival of the most beautiful, I'd say! At least the most intriguing. (Some people anthropomorphize their pets, some their plants....I do both....terrible me)

Thanks for the post Connie and Bruce. The article was extremely interesting.I know that many seeds in the savanna areas of the world need fire to help them germinate. So does
the oil palm fruit . I understand that even the giant sequoia needs fire to rejuvenate - but orchids? This is the first time that I've heard of it. So fascinating!
