Default An idea for a database

    Hi Senior members
i was wondering if it's poss to make a data base for orchid disease and pests.
for example one of my orchids had his leaves getting limp and wrinkled i was googleing the net for pictures of leaves that look the same like my orchid so i can relate to the cause of it, at the end i found what i was looking for but it was only after i touched the leaves and tried to find a discription for that filling the leaves has the feeling of leather and they looked like our fingers after a long bath.
than i read that there are 2 reasons for that: extreme cold or dead roots since i deprived the cold issue i took the orchid from his pot and examend his roots only to discover they are dead.
so what i'm sugesting is to build a data base with photos and the reasons for that specific condition and also a detail description of what we see and what we feel when we touch the plant, it will help a great deal for beginner growers if they can identify properly the symptoms much like a doctor diagnose his patient.

what do you think about this idea of mine?

There is something similar to it already...you just have to be a member. The one i'm familiar with is through the AOS website. They also have calendars to tell you when to change up fertilizers and watering for certain types. I agree though; it would be nice if it was available in this sort of format as well.

We have lots of space, Gidi. Any member is welcome to post an article with photos in our orchid article library. This sounds like a great idea. There are also many posts on here with photos and descriptions along with solutions on how to correct the issues.

    Cheers,
    BD

Hi, I agree about a database.I had the same problem with a Cat. I found this site in my search and found the information I needed. I have now revived four plants by following the advise that I found here.

A database could be useful, but I would prefer to ask the members of this forum. You just can't beat that personal touch.
