Love the color of this one. It is so intense and vibrant. Seems that it was in spike forever before it finally decided to open. Finally one bud opened and then each day after that another opened. It has 10 blooms. When I was bringing it upstairs I discovered a second spike forming. I am happy that I will being enjoying this one in bloom for a long time.

    Nice bloom!
When I had mine, it did take forever to open the bud. I thought it was because it's a little too warm to grow in Houston.

I thought perhaps it was because I was growing mine cool in my basement that was the reason for the long wait. Since you had the same problem growing it warm I guess it is just one of those that makes you wait. Those guys make me angry sometimes! LOL I am very impatient! It will be interesting to see how long it will take for the second developing spike to bloom.

    Hi there!

It looks like this thread is pretty old, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway. I recently purchased an Oncda. Charlesworthii 'Mishima,' which might have been a bad idea since I'm fairly new to orchids. So, I was hoping to get a little more information on them. From the research I've done, it seems like they need more water than a Phal, maybe, and a lot of indirect sunlight. Does that sound right? It also seemed that it was severely dehydrated when I bought it, which I didn't know since I had never seen one before. I'm pretty sure it's packed completely with sphag moss. Is that the medium I should be using? Any help would be great!

Congrats on your purchase. You chose a real beauty. Mine gets watered once a week. I grow mine in bark. I don' t have great luck with sphagnum. It stays too wet and causes root rot. I summer mine outdoors where it get dappled light most of the day. I grow it in the basement under lights during the winter which is on the cool side. Usually temps in basement are in low to mid 60's. Hope this helps. Good luck and look forward to seeing pics of your first bloom.
