Cymbidium Little Black Sambo 'Black Magic' question

I bought this guy last summer. Read all the conflicting care info on the net and proceeded following with the most suggested culture info. I kept it dry from Nov. until just a few weeks ago. I did give it a little spritz once a month as suggested. I am growing it in a SW window. About 6 weeks ago I noticed the developement of what I thought might be a spike or perhaps it is a new growth. My regular cymbidiums are sending out new growths now that seem to grow an inch or more per day. This developing growth on Sambo is growing very slowly in comparison. I am hoping that one of you guys can help me out here and tell me if it is a bloom spike forming or is it a new growth? I know these guys are supposed to bloom in late Spring or early Summer. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.
