Physan 20 is used as a fungicide on orchids, but has many other uses in the greenhouse as well. Here is an excerpt describing what it does:

Physan 20 is an effective control of fungi, algae, bacteria, and viruses. Use it as a general disinfectant for cleaning tools, benches, planter trays, contaminated pots and soil. Excellent for controlling bacteria and fungi on seeds, seedlings, cuttings and ornamental plants. Physan 20 can also be used to control algae in greenhouses, decorative ponds (TOXIC TO FISH!) and birdbaths. Or use it to treat a variety of diseases affecting lawns, turf, and grass, including fairy ring, dollar spot, and toadstools. Not intended for use on food crops. Most applications require less than 2 Tbsp. per gallon of water. Biodegradable.
    Hope this hekps, Byron.

    Cheers,
    BD

BUMP! I wanted to reopen this because I found a local nursery selling it and wanted to buy some...My OH argues with me and says that it is too dangerous a chemical. I understand that the concentrate needs incredibly careful handling...How bout the mixed product? I would be using this on a deck and have a neighbor downstairs. Would run-off be dangerous in any way?

It is always best from a safety and effectiveness point of view to strictly follow the directions on the label for any particular chemical used rather than rely on forum threads. This is not to be offensive or demeaning of anyone's knowledge, but meant to promote the best use of chemicals than can potentially do harm. Some products can come in different concentrations or formulations and can also change over time.

I use Physan and the mix depends on what you are using it for. The label has pretty thorough recommendations...I have to use a magnifying glass to read it myself...so I have switched to the actual website for Physan 20. It's much easier to read. lol For pots, steralizing tools, walkways, etc. it's a Tablespoon to a Gallon of water. For orchid seedlings, rot on roots, etc. it's 1 1/2 Teaspoon to a Gallon of water. I am careful with this, but find it great down here in Florida for killing black mold. The pipe that drains the a/c runoff gets green this time of year, but physan and a broom get it every summer. Just be sure to wash your hands very well after using it.

I use a one part bleach to nine parts water for sterilizing my pots...I do use Physan for some things, however. I have NOT used it before re-potting, though. It cleaned the windows on my greenhouse very well...LOL! Betty :-)

Basically I use Physan to get rid of algae growing on my grow area flooring and walkways. It is very good at doing this.

It seems to be a very good wetting agent also because it effectively reduces the surface tension of a liquid, causing the liquid to spread across or penetrate more easily the surface of a solid.
