Around here it is Rattlesnakes...not my favorite, but I would rather encounter one of them that meet a Grizzly while out Orchid hunting!

They are soooooo beneficial to have around. And the venom of some is so helpful to medical science! My father recently told me that his wife shot a snake in the head with a 22 rifle....I had to get off of the phone with him

    Those were mousehunters at all.

@Ron, looks like you have one of the poisonous snakes in the Philippines, its a venomous pit viper (Trimeresurus sp.).
    hi derek,
both are venomous, the green one was first identified as waglers viper, although its not correct, dont know the species.
the other one is a Parias flavomaculatus.

Glad you like this thread, Gita. Actually ANOTHER snake was at the DOOR of my greenhouse yesterday, but I didn't have my camera handy...I'll try to remember it when going to the greenhouse! This one was much longer...maybe eight feet or more, and a different pattern...Betty

I have always loved reptiles and other creepy crawlies. I think they are all beautiful in their own way and have an important place in the circle of life. When I was young, I asked my mother if I could get a snake and she said "when you have your own place you can do what you want and get a snake then". So, when I got my own place, this is what I got:

This is Roger, my rosy boa. I've had him for about 15 years. As far as I'm concerned, snakes make great pets .
