Oncidium Heaven Scent 'Redolence' in bloom

I got this one last winter, and it's been growing like crazy. I've got it in a very small pot with sphagnum, and new roots are coming out constantly. This is the very first blooming, so it isn't a spectacular number of flowers, but they smell great! It is a cross between Sharry Baby and Onc. Ruffles, so I think it has a somewhat sweeter smell than Sharry Baby, but it still smells like chocolate. I'll be looking forward to future bloomings with this one!

Oh, that is nice. I don't know Onc. Ruffles, will have to look that one up. If this on takes after sherry baby, it will grow very fast.

I have this one and love it. The color, flower form, and scent is wonderful. I like the scent a little better than Sharry Baby. Bruce is correct in that it is a fast grower and really puts on a show. Congratulations on your first bloom. It will only get better for you each time it blooms. mine usually blooms twice a year and with multi spikes.Thanks for sharing yours.

Thanks! Yes, it is a fast grower. It has two large pseudobulbs now, and the third bulb started about the same time as the spike.

I like this one especially the clean white contrasting with the chocolate brown. If it smells better than Sharry Baby then it deserves its name.

I have been hunting tonite as this is a Sharry Baby cross(rather rare) and have discovered that Oncidium Ruffles had a parent that I had not heard of even though its a primary hybrid. So what has had me scratching my head ? Oncidium Ruffles is sotoanum x fuscatum . Oncidium sotoanum up until about a couple of months ago was called Oncidium ornithorhynchum . This Oncidium in the background would be the reason that this plant would be a fast grower and maybe smaller in stature than the Sharry Baby.
