I was in the middle of potting up my one and only dendrobium (a NOID) tonight and saw these roots on a new growth hanging off an older cane, and wondered if it was a keikei. Your video cleared up the mystery of what I was supposed to do with it! Thanks!

Can you help me out with a different mix? I live in a city in which I can't get all those materials. I have a dendrobium which went under a lot of damage from rough stuff (including 6 puppies playing with it while I wasn't home) but it's very noble and it's giving me a keiki and another growth. The root system in this plant is very bad, I'm not sure if it's because the abuse it's had or because of the mix. I have a mix of lava rock, medium/large bark (which I can't cut... any ideas for that?) and charcoal. I could add perlite as I have it for other plants. What can I replace the coconut husk with? And what can I do about the bark? I don't have any tools to cut it with and they don't sell smaller pieces. Anything I could replace it with? I'd like to have everything ready before the keiki has to be separated.

Don't worry about the bark. For the coconut husk use chopped up sphagnum moss. The coconut husk is to help retain a little water.
