    Default Philippine Aeschynanthus, Lipstick Plants

The Philippines is one of the most important eco-regions in the world. It was never part of the Sundaland although some of its elements were carried out and evolved. The biodiversity of Philippines is mixed with Continental Asian and Australasian. It is home of exotic species of Medinilla, Orchids (Coelogyne, Dendrobium, Euanthe, Paphiopedilum, Vanda, etc.), Palms (Adonidia, Areca, Calamus, Phoenix, etc.), Rafflesia, Nepenthes, Clerodendron, etc... which the world known since the beginning of horticulture in Europe. One of the most interesting plants to collect are the Gesneriads, especially Aeschynanthus. I have at least 5 species of Aeschynanthus at home which I don't have their specimen names. They have each unique character and also easy to propagate through leaf and stem cuttings. A little shade and bright light will do to make the plants growing and blooming. There are many plants in the Philippine rainforest that are unknown to science at this time.

These are truly a beauty. Indeed, the Philippines is so Eco-Diverse, I bet there'll be
more new species waiting to be discovered.
