Dendrobium Anosmum?

here is one my orchids i have recently acquired called by the trader as sanggumay or dendrobium anosmum which they said is a philippine native


i don't know if the mounting is right, haven't remove from it's original fern stick when i acquired it, i already remove some keikis though, please advice if the fern stick needs to be replaced and how do i do it with out stressing the plant?

wow! what a beautiful flower!

it does look like anosmum, but wait for the flowers just to be sure. you did the right thing
mounting it that way as it gets long with every growth. Give it lots of water and ferts
come december-january stop watering it, it should bloom around march-april.

im watering it everyday early in the morning and feeding it with a general purpose fert every week at half the dosage. or should i change to bloom booster?

would it not be killed if i stop watering for 2 months?

No, it won't die, it needs a rest in winter without water to bloom. If it is indeed D. anosmum it will lose its leaves in winter too. The blooms will appear on the bare cains. Good luck!

I cant comment much on ferts as im not really fertilizing my plants regularly
and when I do I use organic ferts a combo of Fish/Seaweed/guano smelly
stuff tho. Not 2 months, more like 3-4 months no water or until it blooms,
you can start to withheld watering from December or January so that by
summer March-April you'll see blooms otherwise if you keep watering it, it will
form keiki instead of flowers. They're decidious so they require a break from
watering, in our forest they dont get any rains during the summer season.
And dont worry it wont die, by the time you have stopped watering it, it has already
stored a huge reserve of water for itself in those fat juicy canes. The leaves will
fall off but dont be alarmed its just natural and it will bloom on those leafless canes.

Do Dendrobium anosmum seedlings (like 5 growths of 3-4") require the same rest,or any rest since they don't have the reserves of a larger plant?

what about the keikis that i have already separated like what etex are asking, do they also need a rest in watering on that period (December - April) and also this blooming period applies also to some other areas in general or only in philippines?

I dont give seedlings or newly divided keiki's any rest.
