    Randy, you have to taste the real thing. Durian candy and durian ice cream are fine, but nowhere near the creamy sweetness with a bitter twist of the actual fruit. I actually dislike durian ice cream.

    Stinking? It's just like smoking. It smells irritating when someone else is smoking and you're not. I think when you eat the durian, the smell begins to add to the taste.

    That's the problem with the marang. When you see one outside its natural habitat, it's either unripe or overripe. It's best eaten right here but then Pampanga is just so far from Cotabato. Oh well.

    Well ok if you say so, i will give durian another chance.... as durian is the only fruit that i
    have disliked. Maybe when i finally get a time off from work I'll visit Cotabato, we're
    actually planning to do a marathon vacation next year of the south, so Cotabato can easily
    be added to the list.

    Bruce, thank you. I have to look great; I'm competing with those luscious mangosteen, mangoes, pineapple, and durian behind me. ;-)

    Here's another photo of me while weighing the durian. This was taken at a restaurant and I was buying some for dessert. Had to request the waiter to open it for me cause these are quite tricky to open.

    Randy, that's good to hear. In case Cotabato sounds unappealing because of all this negative publicity, then go to DAVAO which has more durian. Look for the PUYAT variety. It's quite large and the pulp is yellow as opposed to the creamy white of most varieties. The PUYAT is easier to swallow for the novice because it is sweeter than the others and without that bitter taste.
    And after that, you have to taste the MANGA WANI, that mango that's even smellier than the durian and is quite abundant in Cotabato and the ARMM areas. But that's another story.

    Omg, what a juicy fruit, my mouth is watering.....yummy.
    Years ago I was in hotel where was notice at the entrance: no durian! however, I smuggled it into the room and enjoyed the taste!

    Davao is definitely on top of the list but not for Durians but for orchids farms.
    as well as Cebu for their guitars. Im curious about that Manga Wani.... I've
    never heard of a mango being smelly before.

    I once brought with me 2 kilos (around 7 pieces) on a flight to Manila. The airline insisted that I check in the wani since it was already ripe and therefore odorous. Durian and manga wani only smell when they are ripe. I don't think Davao has the wani. Maybe very few.

    Now, I just visited the Agri Fair in Davao last week. Will post photos soon under the Vandas photography forum.
