    Default Bountiful Harvest

July to September is usually fruit season in Mindanao where I live.
Just last week I was able to visit my father's farm and harvested some of the fruits in season.
Clockwise, after the bananas are: Lanzones (pale yellow), Marang (with the skin on and a peeled one showing the white pulp), two Durians (thorny fruit), and Rambutan (red). These are their local names. Scientific names seem to take all the sweetness out of the fruit. LOL

The other two photos show me posing in front of fruit stands which are ubiquitous in Cotabato and nearby towns. Very dark plum colored rounded fruit is the mangosteen.

Hi Jonada. We have a local festival known as the Fruit Festival. There's an EAT ALL YOU CAN where everybody can eat as much fruit as he could for about 2 dollars.

Hey Angel, send that marang over here along with the rambutan and lanzones.... the durian
you can keep.... for those who didn't know, durian is one of the stinkiest fruit around...
but one of the most delicious--so i was told. As I never get past the smell.....

Randy, I think we'll get along quite well as the durian is my favorite fruit and apparently your most hated fruit. No competition there. Hahaha
You see, the odor and the flavor are complementary, like garlic. The stronger the odor, the more flavorful the fruit. Some newer hybrids which emit less odor also taste kind of flat.
The marang is difficult to transport since it easily spoils. I have a friend in Manila who once thought the marang was a fish. LOL

Well. when I first tasted marang I fell in love with it, and since moving to pampanga I've
been looking for it but cant find any.... i was able to locate 1 before at the grocery but it
was spoiled already. As for the durian, i remember when my cousins bought some from the
province and everybody seems to be enjoying it, i attempted to try it but i just can get past that smell. Not to mention the house stinks for the whole day. But i love those durian candies.....

Didn't Anthony Bourdain on the show "No Reservations" talk about that smelly fruit on his show when he was in the Philippines last year? BTW: I'm still jealous because I can't get most of that fruit here in Virginia....
