I also got this plant yesterday. I got it at a discount because it had no tag and the owner of the shop had no info on it.......it was a different shop than the paph. Anyone know which this is?
Encyclia tampensis, maybe? Nice find.
I was hope it is tampensis. I know they can handle lower temps than the others...at least that is what the literature I have read says. Thanks Ang!
could also be a primary hybrid. encyclia tampensis - Google Search
do you have photos of the whole plant? the flower looks close to tampensis but there are subtle differences than what i see around.
Hi Stef...pics of the whole plant and a closer view of the flower. The leaves are very stiff. The last encyclia that I was fortunate enough to have the company of had softer leaves. The flowers look alot like alata to me, but alata is described as having "straplike" leaves...when I think "straplike", I imagine softer, not so stiff and hard.
Those are called strap leaves, Jason. Does it have a sweet fragrance? Betty :-)
Guess when I was thinking of straps, I thought the straps that we use to tie our canoe onto the top of our car...LOL! To answer your question, I haven't gotten a good smell of it since that day in the shop...it was sort of a faint lemony spice if I remember correctly. I smelled so many things that day.
Jason...You're close to the place I mentioned. Why not go there? (take a lot of money with you, though!) You'll LOVE it! Betty...:-)
I think it looks like the Alata I had in spike earlier this year.
Now that I look again, the center does look more like alata than tampensis, though I thought the color on alata was darker. Also, there is an alata x tampensis cross called Cindy.
