My newest orchid additions!!

This is my newest: Milt. (spectabilis 'Royalea' AM/AOS x Seminole Sand 'Angel'). As you can see, it is ready for a repot after this session of flowering. It has 7 spikes going!! I don't know much about these, so any advice or info would be appreciated.

And this is my new psychopsis Mendenhall 'Hildos'. It has 2 spikes. I hope I don't ruin the spikes. I had a small one of these in sphag and I think I overwatered it as it rotted on me. So, I went on the hunt for a larger one and this is what I came up with. Again, advice is appreciated.

I am just awful with the "mule earred" oncidiums...but I think the psychopsis are so cool! The Miltonia however, well they are great plants and easy to grow. You can choose one of two options with your new Miltonia when you repot. You can leave it intact and repot it into a pot 1-2 inches larger than it's current pot, or you can divide it into smaller groupings. I used to divide everything, now unless p-bulbs are climbing over one another, I tend to leave them alone when repotting. I remove smaller, withered p-bulbs, rotten roots and then place in a similar growing medium to what i've removed. The up-side of dividing a plant can be when the bugs hit and kill one. But larger plants bloom better. It's up to you. I use clay pots more than plastic because I can be an over-watering type. The articles on repotting will give you other ideas with the oncidium types as well...

I have a Psychopsis that is in "rehab". I thought that I had killed it. If you are worried that you damaged the spike, don't be. I broke the bud off two spikes on mine and the thing just replaced them. HOWEVER...they are a pain to get going again if anything goes wrong with the roots or p-bulbs. I superthrived the hell out of mine and although I see two leads, I see no roots whatsoever. Maybe someone could help us both with that!

Each spike on the psychopsis has put on about 3 inches in 17 days! I am so very happy with it's growth. I wasn't sure that it had enough light, but it seems to be doing just fine.

Very good acquisitions, Jonada. I agree entirely with Connie. The Psychopsis may be be little bit difficult and I wouldn't disturb it if I were you.However the Miltonia is more accommodating. You can grow it into a specimen plant or divide it into a few sections - it is very hardy. I have an old cross of spectablis x russelliana = Milt Purple Queen and it is so hardy that it is impossible to kill.

Impossible to kill is a good thing as I plan to give a piece of it to my friend and she can kill anything. She has a few orchid babies right now that are surviving SO FAR. The psychopsis I will leave in its pot for a while yet. I would be afraid to lose the blooms if I repotted. It is already crawling over the edge of its pot on one side, but it is very healthy looking.

Latest update: MY PSYCHOPSIS IS STARTING TO BUD!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will post pics in a different thread later, but I am so excited.
