Unhappy Advice needed to save poorly phal

I've just rescued a phal from my neighbour who had potted it in normal compost and watered it too much.

As a result a lot of the roots have rotted, I have taken it out of it's pot and cut away all the mushy and dead roots.

    1 brown root 5"
    1 greeny brown root 3"
    1 green with a white tip 2"
4 white and green tips 0"

I washed it in luke warm water, should I have added a little house hold bleach to the water to kill germs?

It is not currently in a pot as I need to get a pot and bark organised, how long will it survive out of the pot?

Not to worry. Phals don't grow in pots in the wild so why hurry to pot it up? When I have phals bare root, I soak the roots once a day in tepid water for 10 minutes-sometimes 15. Bleach might be a bit too strong for the struggling plant. Do you have any hydrogen peroxide? The 3% solution strength is what I use to soak roots.

    Thanks for the advice.

I have some Hydrogen Peroxide but is Lavender fragrance so decided not to use it in case the lavender chemical was harmful to the plant.

I repotted it but I think it is still poorly, the newest leave doesn't look very healthy to me as it is mottled with white spots on it.

It is sitting near a window but not in direct sunlight and I have been spraying it in the morning and watering once weekly.

What would be the best thing to do now or is it a matter of just waiting.

    Before I repotted it.

    When I got it.

Unfortunately only had Hydogen Peroxide with Lavender and didn't want to use it in case the Lavender chemical affected the plant.

I washed the roots as best I could with water then cut away the rotted roots and repotted the plant in some bark.

I have it sitting near a window where it gets light but not direct sunlight.

I have been watering it once a week and spraying it.

I'm a bit concerned about the new leave which has white spots on it and is mottled.

Is there anything I should be doing or is it a matter of waiting?

    As I dound it

    Thanks for the advice.

I have repotted it but I think it is still poorly, the new leave is a bit mottled and has white spots on it.

ifit is growing a new leaf then most likely it will grow roots. Just be patient and make sure you have it in low light for a couple of weeks. also make sure humidity is high

Hi, Rodgy...I've saved them with a lot less roots than you had...I believe you did right by your plant, and that it will be O.K. Betty :-)

    Had to perform emergency surgery!

The new leaf went black and flopped over so I cut it out with a scalpel it looked like the problem was travelling down into the crown.

Was this the right course of action?

Totally black? Sounds like bacterian or fungus rot. Do you have Physan ?

No unfortunately not, I googled Physan and it isn't available in the UK.

Maybe someone will know of a similar product that is available in the UK.
