Which Renanthera are did you get? most renantheras requires full sun with lots of water.
Similar to culture of terete vandas. You can pot them but make sure the mix is open,
large chunks of charcoal or gravel would work.

Hey guys,
I just bought a bare root Renanthera and I’m wondering how I would repot my orchid. I have a few ideas but I’m still in doubt.
Idea 1: Place it in a glass vase. I've seen Vandas in glass vases so maybe this should work in a Renanthera.
Idea 2: I'm thinking of s/h so that I don't have problems in watering. Has anyone successfully grown a renanthera in s/h?
or maybe I should just place it in a slatted basket or mount it on a tree if in any case none of the above will work.
Any suggestions and comments are welcome.

hi, i would choose a sunny spot and mount it, just water it maybe every day in the beginning and watch the roots.
I think you can grow your Renanthera in S/H media BUT you will have to place the plant in very bright light as in strong to full sunlight. These need also the high temperature to coax to flower. Also these get to be quite tall so if you pot in S/H, the plant might topple over due to its height.
I dont think that S/H is good for Renanthera since this can go real tall and the roots can
appear anywhere in the plant. But thats just me....
What I meant is that the potting media used can be the hydrokernels instead of charcoal and coconut chips. One will still have to place a tree fern pole or something similar to stake the plant and let the roots cling to it if ever.
My renanthera which is two feet tall is potted with the hydrokernel as the media but since it is still short I haven't staked it and it is receiving plenty of bright light.
are hydrokernels different from hydrocorns? and the advantage of using one as a medium instead of charcoal, coconut chips, crush ferns?
Ah yes Jojo... thats my primary medium now... just bought 2 sacks of it sometime ago.
Boy, hydrokernels, hydrocorns, leca they're all the same. Advantage would be they do not
decompose and are reusable... just sterilize them first before use. You can get them at
Garden2000 at MSBF.
thanks for the tip randy
btw, if i shift to hydrocorns does my watering of twice a week changes also (do i increase from twice to may 3 or four times a week)?
