Default Why is this orchid spike behaving this way?

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I've posted on this forum. I have a question for you. All of my 5 phals are in spike. All spikes are growing nicely, except one. The spike on this one has grown to about half an inch, and then stopped growing ever since, about three weeks ago. The roots on this plant are growing like crazy, also it has a secondary spike with five buds on it. Why is this happening? Why isn't the new spike growing? Is there something I could do?

i guess the plant shifted its energy into new roots. it will still bloom hopefully, nothing you can do about it.

Yeah I agree with Ron, it happens sometimes. It may be due to change in fertilizer or temperature.

I agree with the above comments. Phals will sometimes stall spikes and then resume the blooming later, or not. Just depends on what the plant decides to do.

As Amey noted, sometimes temperature can cause this to happen. (Both speed up and slow down spike development)

Thank you for your answers. I know temperature can speed up or slow down spike growing, but all of my phals are in the same room, with about 70-74 degrees constant temperature. The other spikes are growing very well. Here are 2 pictures of spikes from my other phals, spikes which are the same age as the one in the previous post.

Orchids seem to have their own "personalities". I have had the same happen. And I haven't figured this one out either.

You could try some blossom booster ( 10-30-20 ) That always works well for me...Betty :-)
