Here's another beauty I found blooming near my pond this morning. I always love it's color unfortunately by afternoon they would start to fade away.

I want to know why it's called a "walking" iris....shape or does it actually do some sort of walking?

    Beautiful flower too!

    Default walking iris plant

For me, living in new england, this is an indoor plant. I put it outside for the summer and then bring it inside in fall. It blooms in February/March. Each bloom lasts one day.

It's called a walking iris because the flower stalks appear as extensions of the central rib of some leaves, and after producing several flowers in succession, grow leaves and roots making new plants. So the plant "walks." It's sort of like a spider plant, but with pretty flowers. Once you have one of them, it produces babies to be given away.
