I have only one, that being Golden Elf. As I am an apt dweller with central air, it is not feasible for me to do cyms that require a chilly period to spike.

I'm curious to see how many are interested in warm growing cymbidiums? either they live in warm climates or they have greenhouses and live in cold climates but heat the greenhouses?
Just a show of hands please

Count me in ! I have a few warmth tolerant cyms. But many that require cool rest, which I cannot provide due to comparitively mild-warm winters. I am goining to try placing icecubes the pots of my cool growing cyms this year, may be the cold melt water at the roos signals them to flower !!
I seriously doubt if ice cubes would be the solution. But what the heck, I could be surprised. Also depending on where you live some of the so called cool growers may work for you
Amey, What about using an old refridgerator with the temperature set about 50 farenheit- what would that be, about 8 degrees centigrade? Means putting the cyms in every night and taking them out in the morning. A lot of work.
Perhaps I can explain a bit about the cool growing cyms since I've been doing it for over 35 years. They require a 20+ degree day night differential to initiate. Then once initiated they also must have a night temp around 55 degrees or so. When in the bud stage they are most sensitive to heat issues and if the nights are too warm the buds will fall off. So while ice or a refrig may help initiate they will not work for the spike once it is growing. Hope that clarifies it. Of course there are some cyms that are more warm tolerant than you might think. Some folk in Hawaii have been blooming Red Beauty and Jungfrau which are lovely standards and not thought of as warm loving. A lot depends on your exact conditions so experiment away!
I'm glad you started this thread. I do not have any, but am interested in trying them, so it is nice to see some variety names to look for.

Cindi I had that in mind, I also have a cold storage, but the problem is I am here in Bremen and my plants are in Pune, India. It would be just too much to ask of my mom to put 25 of them every day in and out of the cold storage for about 2 months (She will abandon my orchids for sure LOL) Instead placing a few ice cubes in the pot sounds a bi easier hehe.
