    Default RARE variegated Pahiopedilum Julius

Here's a picture of my rare variegated Paph Julius.

It was in bloom last summer, here's a tiny pic (sorry about the size)

I've never actually seen one of those, only heard about them. Thanks for posting it! Do they need to be grown any differently than the non-variegated type?

Yes, they are slower growing than the normal ones and require less bright light, so it is in a bright shaded area under the GIANT Brassia gireoudiana.

That is just beautiful Pete. Honestly I say that about all your plants. I need a more exciting word than beautiful for this one, how about stupendous! The magenta on the petals is so vibrant!

Wow, that's really wild. Is the variegation confined to a single growth, or everything after the initial growth?

Heather, thanks for the kind words!

    Jason,

The mother plant was normal and after finishing blooming, it produced two new growths, one normal growth and the second growth was also normal except for 2 variegated leaves. The one with the 2 variegated leaves produced a new growth and that new growth is 100% variegated. So, I hope that it stays consistent and produces more variegated growths.

However, the variegated growth is very slooooooow growing.

    Thanks, Heather!

I guess I was just very lucky to end up with one that produced a rare variegated growth.

Has the other normal growth kept producing normal growths? (And do they grow faster?) And what radioisotope did you expose that plant to?

    Hehehe..

The plant is acting very strange. The normal growth has somehow come to a standstill and the variegated growth seems to have taken over and acts like it is the dominant one and it is now larger than the normal growth, so I don't know what is up with that variegated growth. And yes, it is growing very slowly. I have heard that variegated plants do grow slower than the normal ones.
