Kind of a cute little spring bulb. This one does well in moist, partial shade - kind of unusual for a bulb. The flowers are large (1 inch) for the size of the plant which is only about 6-7 inches high.
Very funky. It looks upside down.

It is upside down, isn't it? Isn't that the stem at the top?
Sure has a great pattern though. How long do the flowers last?
I'm getting a wave of motion sickness now...

This probably explains why I've never had any success with this one. I like Fritts a lot, but I had pretty much given up on 'the checker lily.'Originally Posted by TundraKev

Sorry, I don't know how I missed the responses here. No, it's not upside down. The flower hangs like that. It's really kind of a strange plant. The flower is really huge in proportion to the rest of the plant. It looks kind of odd, but I still like it.Originally Posted by lja
Yeah, it is a nodding flower. I can attest to the fact they look exactly like Kev's pictured plant. Strangely, though, both of the two plants I've seen have been in a reasonably sunny location. Anyway, a great-looking plant and I think I'll be looking for one!
Cheers,
Rob
This is a PS--the flowers last at least a couple of weeks. (At least based on my somewhat limited observations=small sample.)

I would imagine, the farther north you are (and you ARE north) the more sun they like.
