    Red face Oncidium Sharry Baby

I have had this mature plant for a year. Not only has it not put up a spike but hasn't even sent up a new shoot. When it came from the grower the large leaves had been cut back to allow for easier packing. I love the plant but am running out of patience. Any suggestions?

well, what sort of conditions it it growing under? it needs fairly bright light, and not cool, but cool/intermediate, somewhere in between. perhaps with the exporter cutting back the leaves, it has caused the plant to go into a dormancy period just to get its wits about it.....i know some do that like my pagan lovesong x bradshawine....it took 16 months to come right after we moved-and that was from one end of tthe city to the other!

Thanks. Patience isn't my strongest point. I will move it to a brighter window now that spring is 'springing' and hope for the best. Appreciate the reply. Carol

Why do those of us with no patience decide to grow orchids? I am the same way and have the same plant with the same problem.

Carol, & Jonada, more light, a 20 to 22 degree drop in temp. at night & blossom booster should "spike" Sharry Baby for both of you...Betty

Patients? I have none, unless it comes to small children. Orchids, I try not to watch them or they die. Neglect them, forget about a plant and not water it for a month...it'll spike. But watch it? It makes them grow slower or die...at least at my house.

Patience is something I am devoid of...I can only tell people "what" has worked in the past for me...Betty :-)

funny that for a bunch of people who love orchids a lot of us dont have much patience.... Anyways I grow my Sharry Baby in almost full sun. Its growing in the same spot where many of
my Vandas are kept, so it gets lots of heat, light and humidity...

I got mine last year. I was told to place it outside so it could set spike. I had mine outdoors for two months and it set spike.

I got mine last year around this time. It is in spike at the moment and the spike is much longer and with way more buds than when I bought it. It stayed outside for the entire summer and most of the fall getting a large temp drop every night. It was also given so much sun that the plant is pretty damned ugly now. But for that matter, I didn't buy a Sharry Baby for its appearance. I got it for the fragrance, so I sacrificed.
