    Smile Basal Orchid Keiki

    Another question regarding a phal. I bought a mini phal in bloom almost a year ago. It has not put up another spike but has formed three basal keikis. It is a NOID but the flower was very pretty. What causes this? Thanks.

    If the main growth of the plant is healthy, it is usually the genetic background that causes basal keikis. Phal. equestris, which is typically in the background of mini Phals has a tendency to form basal as well as keikis on flower spikes.
