please oh please tell me would this grow in a cool situation? or even on top of an indoors fishtank? i really would love to get my hands on one!

My growing condition here is very warm.I would say if you can grow cattelyas then you can grow this dendrobe.

im not sure....i dont grow catts, only got one i keep indoors.......all my other dendrobs grow outside tho. with daytime temps up to 35*C at the moment, its not a problem!

Im currently not using any insecticide at all..only fungicide..My house is a terrace and I was concerned that my neighbours would object to the smell. My friends were using Malathon and apparently the whole neighbourhood complained! I am rather worried about pests but have yet to find a good insecticide which doesnt stink to high heaven. I only ward against slugs and snails. Any advice? Plus I am also growing some of my orchids in my indoor courtyard so am worried abt health issues for the occupants in the house.

Oh I also found a cicada in my garden the other day, are they a blight on my orchids?

Yes, Gavin, Malathion does have an unpleasant smell. Unless you have a bad infestation you don't have to use any insecticide at all. BTW the imidacoprid I used to control the thrips is odourless but it is actually more poisonous than Malathion as it is Class II poison compared to Malathion's Class III. And it is used extensively by chilli growers in Malaysia ..... the chillis are supposed to be safe for consumption a week after spraying.

Your orchids are safe from cicadas as adult cicadas have no mouth parts for feeding. They only feed iduringtheir larval stage in the ground. The adults only function, it seems, is to mate, reproduce and die.

I went to the agri store near my office to have a look just now but decided against picking up any insecticide as I really am trying not to use any if possible. I have a baby coming so I really wanna limit the poisons in the house rather than increase!

Hmmm...makes you worry sometimes what we are consuming what with all the -icides we are spraying!
