Default Name your favorite top 5 orchids.

What are your favorite top 5 orchids (genus, species, hybrids)? I know too much time on my hands.

    Mine are as follows:

1- All multilforal Paphs and Phrag species and a few hybrids.
    2- Brassia gireoudiana
    3- Dendrobium spectabilis
    4- Angraecum sesquipedale
5- Brassavola nodosa and Brassavola cucullata (tie)

This is a tough question. I don't even know all the orchids in existance. But, from what I know I will list my favorites that I own first...subject to change when others bloom

    1. Phrag. St. Peter (doesn't hurt that it is blooming)
    2. Blc. Haiku Dawn x Slc. Little Precious ‘Orange Beauty.’
The one in the pic below is mine - not in the hand, but in the lower left corner. That is before its huge new growth/leaf and all the roots - it is climbing out of the pot now.

    3. Iwanagarra Hailea - it was my first, and thought to be dying , and is growing like crazy now.
    4. Catt. Aurantiaca Kumquat. I can't wait until it blooms.
    5. Tie between Max. tenuofolia, Masd. Confetti, and Neofinitia Falcata. I'm really looking forward to having some fragrant bloomers.

I have a little interest in a paph. micranthum right now, so I'd have to say that is a fav. non owned. I love draculas, but know I could not grow them.

I think my next Paph will be a micranthum. They are small and compact but the blooms are HUGE. I'm even thinking of getting a malipoense and or a delenatii because of their nice raspberry fragrances. Did you get a new digicam?

Hey Louis, when are you getting Paph and Phrag species?

Working on it.... But they're going to be in flask so the seedlings won't be ready to sell until about October or so.

Name your favorite top 5 orchids
I'm afraid that if I do that, the rest of em are going to get jealous and fungus up on me or something....

No, Pete, no camera - that's the pic from the auction back in like, February - right around v-day. It has grown a LOT since then, but I think it is cool I can pick out my plant from among the many in the greenhouse. I may try to borrow the archaic camera from work tomorrow though.

I have to say I am really picky about what genera I like and dislike. I am not a brassia, or dend. or oncidium lover. I think brassias are cool, but so out of control- and weird. Not what I would grow (at least now.) I am really into the mini catts, and paphs and phrags. I got into catts cause that was the first thing I had, but quickly moved on. Now I rarely see one I HAVE to have. Different story w/ the slippers. They've definitely gotten a hold of me.

Whipporwhil has a cool micranthum hybrid that is yellow. I know it is a hybrid, but I have a good amount of pink, and love the yellow. Must put out of mind...

Heather, the micranthum cross you're talking about is going to be totally gorgeous. It's one of Tom's own, and well worth every penny IMHO. He had a few mature specimens of the 'Butterbowl' parent in his exhibit down in Little Rock, and everyone who saw it couldn't help standing there for ten minutes, going "WOW....."

(I'm really not an enabler. Really.)

Stop - really - you must stop.

I really am running out of room, but that is a lovely color. Seriously, though, I found the vendor through your site, Louis - but know not a thing about them otherwise. It is not a bad price.

Heather, Whippoorwil is also an excellent vendor. Some of my plants came from him too.
