Default Paph Pulsar x Paph Ruby Leopard 'Flame'

I like the green veins in this one.

Did anyone else watch Alias tonight and see the huge (probably fake) paph that was central to the plot?

A friend of mine TiVOs Alias, and we get together on Tuesdays to watch a couple of episodes at a time (we switch between shows week to week. Right now, we're alternating between Alias and the new Battlestar Galactica, which is great.) So I haven't seen this episode, but I'll look forward to seeing it in a few weeks.

Do you remember the Oncidium which had been preserved from the 15th century or whatever? I think that was second season. Odd that they should use an orchid again. BTW; I was annoyed that they had used a South American orchid, except that Rambaldi (sp?) had apparently _been_ to South America anyway, so it was just implausable in an already established way rather than being a plot hole.

It's too bad the show has gone downhill so much from the first two seasons, but it's still enjoyable.

Oh, and yeah, the green veins are really cool, especially on the white part of the top sepal, where they seem to really stand out.

Geez. I never even heard of Alias.

Sure is a nice Paph and pic though. Very clear, and I really like how the colors blend--the peppering on the petals too.

    it has a big dorsal,
and i'm really partial to the shades of red.
i'm not sure if it has a white halo or not,
but it sure gives an interesting lighting effect.

while i like to "orchid spot" during show/commercials,
    i don't watch alias,
so wanna throw out a spoiler and
tell how the orchid was involved in the show?
i'd love to hear about it.

Yes. I do remember the oncindium. I thought their orchid choice was odd too, but I think they may have picked both based on looks, rather than their native growing locations. This orchid is tied in with Rambaldi again, but since you haven't seen it I won't spoil the show for you. (And yes, the show simply isn't as much fun any more.)

ALIAS rocks! (generally) And yes, that was the strangest looking Paph. representation I've ever seen. My first thought was, "no, that couldn't be real, could it?" and then quickly decided that Paph's don't grow like epidendrum snowballs, especially not the size of a Buick. So, if this represented a real species orchid known to be extinct, I'm in awe. It was just theatrical play. I didn't record it and they said the name so fast, I couldn't recall it to write it down and google it to see if such an orchid ever existed. The plot was interesting, though....orchid 'nectar' that when distributed into the drinking water supply could advance human consciousness towards benevolence, peace, and higher ideals. Lord knows my orchids are more conscious, aware, and smarter than half the population out there, including myself.

Makes me wonder? Anyone know if they eat orchid flowers, greens, or roots in any cultures for ritual/ceremonial, or otherwise nutrition based reasons? (besides vanilla, yum)

    Default The Paph Fraud

Here is a screen shot of the paph from Alias. (Yes, I pirated it from an Alias site -- sorry ). When they showed it on TV it was quick, but now looking up close . . . well how real do you think it is.
