I'm new to this species, just purchased one a couple of weeks ago (the bulb). It is growing extremely fast, and now I saw something that to me looks like a flower stalk. Any suggestions from the Bletilla orchid growers?
yep, that's a spike.
I agree with Stephen, can't help never have a chance to grow here. Don't forget to post laterZain
Gabi, is your local weather friendly enough to plant the Bletilla outside?
It is a little too cold for Bletilla where I live. In the winter the temperature goes down to -20°C, or even lower. Here Bletilla is grown outside from early spring untill late autumn.
Very cool. I hope you share when it is open too!
Cheers,
BD
Thanks Bruce. Of course I'll post pics when it blooms
Can't wait to see the bloom! I bought my first one last fall and it has yet to spike. Hope to plant it in the ground here in florida once the garden gets hoed
This orchid grows like crazy! I've planted the bulb exactly two weeks ago, and look at it now!
These grow pretty well in Louisiana, my roommate's mother used to grow these in north Louisiana. She left them in the ground all year, temps in the winter get into the upper teens at the coldest and they usually get one snowfall a year up there.
