    Talking Homemade Apple Pie

The Filling: After pealing and coring the apples, cut into small pieces and put into a mixing bowl.
Pour the sugar over the apples and coat them well. Use more sugar if your apples are very tart.
    add in the salt
sprinkle the cinnamon over the apples. (I like a lot more cinnamon so I double this ingredient.) Mix and coat the apples.
if your apples are very juicy, add some cornstarch to thicken them up by absorbing the juice. I usually leave this out because I do not mind the extra juice in the pie.
Now, pour the apples into your pie pan over the crust you have already put in it.
Chip up the butter and sprinkle the chunks around the apples. Add more butter for more flavor.
Using the stripes of dough cut into long thin pieces, create the lattice 'Top Crust'
    Trim off any overhang.
Now, almost done: Pour a bit of milk in a glass and dip a paper towel into the milk to pick up some of it. Gently brush the top of the lattice crust with milk.
While still wet from the milk, sprinkle with more sugar and cinnamon.
Have your oven preheated to 400 degrees and place your pie in the center of the oven. Let it cook for 8 minutes and then reduce heat to 350 degrees.
Cook the pie at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream or serve cool right from the refrigerator.

Pi Day. Ha!Ha! My daughter always calls me on 3/14 and wishes me a Happy Pi Day...but she never accompanies it with something like your pie!

I'm impressed that your lattice crust is actually a lattice crust and not a cheater one - good job!

Thank you, Patty. It takes a little time, but it makes the pie look better - at least I think so. It sure was good anyway.

    Cheers,
