    Default Winter hardy begonia

OK, I'm just going to keep throwing things at you guys until you tell me to stop.

    Begonia grandis

I grew this for the first time last year and really liked it. I'm generally not into begonias especially the big, tuberous kind or those little ones grown as annuals. This one is very nice and from everything people have told me hardy from zones 6 (maybe even 5) on south. If I remember correctly, the person I got it from lived in Rhode Island or one of those Eastern states. I always get them mixed up.

I didn't leave mine outside for winter, but again stored it in dry peat. Maybe once I have a few of them, I might try leaving one out with a deep mulch to see what happens.

The flowers are simple and cute, but the foliage is really beautiful. There are some good pictures and info in the link below, but one thing the pics don't show very well is the undersides of the leaves. On my plant, these are a very bright red that really looks cool when the sun shines through them. I would grow this for the foliage alone.

I wish we had more shady areas for things like this. We've only got one, really, already taken over by hostas. The undersides of those leaves really are something though. I'd love to see a pic of your whole garden Kev, like a wide angle. That would be cool. And definitely keep bringing em on; reading these feels like looking through an awesome nursery catalog!
