    Unhappy Phal trouble HELP

So I have a year old phal which just recently spiked again. It has 4 flowers which were a little slow to open, although none dropped. My problem is that the leaves are looking terrible. They are limp and look almost veiny. I am very concerned as I'm not sure whether to cut the spike or repot the whole plant. It does look as if there might be some mold going on around the roots. I never have had this problem before so I am very worried. Please help.

Sounds like dehydration due to problems with the roots. Since you noticed mold on the roots that might be the cause of the roots dying. I would repot after cutting away the old diseased roots, leaving the healthy ones and the dusting the roots with fungicide. And cut the spike to save energy for the new growth.

I agree...though I am inclined to add that the mold is most likely due to a compound problem. Broken down media discourages air movement around the roots. Mold tends to grow in stale-air conditions. Mold growth further restricts air flow....dead or dying roots. I would follow her advice. Repot, medicate, and cut the spike.

to all the above. Jason adds some good thoughts about the air movement and mold too. Good luck!
